Johnny Belinda by Elmer Harris

 Johnny Belinda, the original play, has never been performed in Canada. Written by Island summer resident Elmer Harris in 1940, it was made into an Academy Award winning movie in 1948, NBC television show in 1967 and the famous Charlottetown Festival Musical version in 1968. Johnny Belinda is a passionate love story about a deaf girl from Kings County, PEI in 1894. This tale of murder, courage, revenge and unstoppable love is based on the real life story of Lydia Dingwell.
